This Afghan Aryana is a very unusual piece woven in northwest Afghanistan using a design more associated with the silk embroideries made in Uzbekistan. The colouring is uncommon as it is pretty muted with soft red, cream, pale blue, old gold, dark blue and a very soft salmon shade.

Aryana rugs are in and Kabul in Afghanistan, often using designs for museum pieces. Woven from long wool sheared from , the wool is washed using a gentle soap with water and then hand-combed and hand-spun on a spindle. Next, the wool is , using plants, flowers and berries, walnut husks, pomegranate rind, , and indigo. Not surprisingly, wools vary in colour due to differences in the dyes' absorption, resulting in a feature called ''- giving Aryana rugs their unique colour and distinct appearance.
