This is a fabulous creative rug, a real artwork in its own right. Lately, we have seen more designs and colours in the carpets woven in Afghanistan. Some designs move towards a more modern look, often with more vibrant colourings. On this occasion, shades of blue contrast with a beautiful sunrise orange/yellow and feature different trees with birds and animals.

Handmade  carpets are becoming very well regarded. This market has been growing quickly in recent years, with greater emphasis on higher quality knotting and Pakistan's influence in many finishing processes, such as  to correct alignment issues where the weaver has drifted the wefts, causing the pattern to run out. Next, adjustments may be undertaken, followed by , , and . This combination of Afghan weaving and finishing in Pakistan has succeeded. These carpets are closely knotted and usually finished with an exciting and unusual bound multicoloured fringe.

The carpets are still , and the wool is coloured with . The Loribaft rug designs can be reminiscent of designs, although the Loribaft pieces are much more refined and tightly knotted. The colours of the Loribaft rugs and carpets are similar in many ways to those used in our Samarkand collections, and they are possibly more vibrant. The main distinction is that the patterns are playful, using a rich colour palette and simple design, with stylised animals, plants, trees or characters with block colour often mimicking an ombre effect. Some of the Loribaft pieces do not have fringes and are finished with a plain  end or binding, secured to prevent fraying. The other rugs are generally produced like the Samarkand carpets with an unusual bobbin wind on the warps.

It is worth reminding ourselves that these handmade rugs are unique and special. Owning one is something you can enjoy for many years. I recommend buying a handmade rug made of the best natural fibre, wool.

We recommend the use of an underlay with this product:
For uneven surfaces, we would recommend our Felt underlay:
